The year’s at the spring

The year’s at the spring And day’s at the morn; Morning’s at seven; The hillside’s dew-pearled; The lark’s on the wing; The snail’s on the thorn; God’s in his heaven– All’s right with the world. ~Robert Browning (1812-1889), English poet and playwright

Keeping The Romance Alive

“I would have rummaged, ransacked at the word; those old corners of an empty heart; for remnants of dim love the long disused, and dusty crumbling of romance!” Robert Browning As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches I think it’s a good time for a quick romance checkup.  Ask yourself; are you eagerly anticipating the romantic celebration of your love, or are you once again dreading your all too regular disappointment with the lack of passion in your relationship? It’s an all-too-common scenario.  In the beginning it’s flowers, intimate dinners for two, breakfast in bed, and sexy lingerie.  But as the passion of courtship cools, it’s more like ESPN, takeout, sleeping in with our backs to one-another, and sweatpants.  But listen carefully, your love life doesn’t have to be humdrum, and it certainly doesn’t take mammoth effort to rekindle the flames of romance all over again. Romance starts by getting our priorities straight. The busyness and routine of daily life c

February 9th forum announcement

Dear Poetry Aficionados,IBPC: Poetry & Poets in RagsOne of our Great Regulars, London poet John Rety, has died. He has been the poetry editor for Morning Star, bringing weekly poetry to the world. You will find his latest column under his name, instead of under Morning Star, a change I have been meaning to make for months. His obituary is in our Poetic Obituaries section. In the week for love, we begin our News at Eleven section with war and strife, because that is what has been published. The first four articles, however, are remarkable in their subject matters. We get a taste of love in our sixth item, a look at some Robert Browning love poetry, but they sure aren't Valentine's Day poems. We do have some, in Great Regulars, and all sorts of poetry, and examination of all sorts of poetry, in both News at Eleven and Great Regulars. I'll let you get to reading. An excellent week. Thanks for clicking in.Yours,RusOur links:IBPC: Poetry & Poets in RagsPoetry & Poets in Rags blogIBPC Home~~~~

News at Eleven: Robert Browning's two poems, "Porphyria's Lo…

"My Last Duchess," have some striking similarities. Both feature men who seem mentally disturbed; Further, both of these men had relationships with "strong" women who, despite apparently loving them, they each ended up killing. And interestingly enough, both men seem to be much happier after they have committed these murders.from Student Pulse: The Balance of Power Between Men and Women in Robert Browning's Poems~~~~~~~~~~~
