Ristorante del Porto a James Beard Semi-Finalist

Louisiana friend gave me the heads-upWhen the James Beard Award semifinalists are announced, the only region I customarily look at is the Best Chef: West list. My colleague Donna O'Daniels, executive director of Louisiana's Northshore Tourist Commission, was in Denver yesterday. I didn't get to see her when I visited St. Tammany Parish last fall, but we talked about the food and restaurants both on our turf and hers. She told me something that I would have noticed if I had read all the way down the semifinalist list. The husband-and-wife chef team of David and Torre Solazzo of Ristorante Del Porto in charming Covington are on the list  -- as it turns out, for the second year in a row. Ohmygod 1! We had lunch there. Ohmygod 2! It is one of several restaurants I didn't get around to writing a post about. We had so many fine meals in so few days -- and this was one that slipped through the proverbial cracks. The self-described contemporary Italian r

HurraSeason - Hatin

The Life of HURRASEASON: A determined, innovated and strong motivated young brother, who was born in New Orleans. By the age of 7, he had to move with his family to Louisville, Kentucky, 1200 miles away from his original birth place (New Orleans, Louisiana). Kentucky became his second home. As a teenager, he grew up around jazz and the newly found hip hop era. He became passionate to making music. By the age of 15, he was signed to his first Independent contract and has kept it pushing ever since. He is no stranger to the elements of crime nor a troubled home. Being a structured black man, he learned to deal with tough conditions. Every since birth his mother and father rapped and sung him songs to ease the pain of the rough world around him. The struggling living conditions, lack of money and learning how to sell drugs just to feed and clothes himself. It prepared him at an early age to survive in this tough world. Times were hard, he took his life experiences and wrote about it.

So, That’s a “No” Then Steve?

Oh, this little moment of media puffery last night on Channel 11 in Green Bay won't come back to haunt the guy this November at all. <sarcasm>Not. One. Bit.</sarcasm> "Let me put it this way: you're asking whether or not I trust the United States Senate, where they came up with a deal for Nebraska that the other states didn't get; where Louisiana would get a special deal. No, I don't trust the U.S. Senate," said Rep. Steve Kagen (D-8th District). "So I think I'd like to have a vote on something very meaningful." Kagen said the health care bill should be split up into smaller bills. "I have made the case to the speaker and also to the White House that we should take small pieces, small bites," Kagen said. "In the practice of medicine, I can't give a child a big pill. What do we do? We cut it up into pieces. Let's find things we can agree on." Let's just go with the facts here shall we? 1) Has Nancy Pelosi listened to Kagen one iota in the past during the health car

Liv Tyler Is On The Ledge

Liv Tyler Is On The LedgeShe's joining the suspense thrillerSource: The Hollywood Reporter Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson are the latest cast members to join first-time director Matthew Chapman’s suspense thriller The Ledge. The pair will co-star alongside Charlie Hunnam and Terence Howard in the tale of a man (Hunnam) who claims he has to jump off by noon and the police officer (Howard) trying to make sure he doesn’t become a human pancake. The film sounds like it has a simple premise, but producer Michael Mailer feels it goes deeper: "As more and more films succumb to the visual wizardry of 3D, The Ledge explores the fourth dimension: the interior life of tortured souls hovering over the precipice of emotional nullity.” Emotional nullity sounds like the reaction we had watching Old Dogs.Nullity or not, the film itself began shooting in Louisiana this week.Source: EmpireOnline

Eric Massa's Traficant Moment

It's a funny thing how Democrats circle the wagons when one of their "good soldiers" is exposed as a criminal, as was the case with William Jefferson of Louisiana. And in the case of Charlie Rangel, Democrat Congressman from Bronx, New York - who may not have been convicted but is clearly outside the laws he helped to write as former Chairman of the House Ways And Means Committee - failure to report income and pay taxes was "no big deal". But if one of their own steps out of line on policy issues, they will attack like Jack London's huskies in White Fang. Eric Massa is the latest casualty, having resigned today over something so trivial in the grand scheme of things, but under heavy fire from his own party. The reason? He said something sexually inappropriate to a male staffer at a private wedding reception. As weak as that may be, it's not even the real reason. (Besides, they defended President Clinton - who actually sodomized an intern - and attempted to portray the act as "not real
