| Hyperion Dan Simmons always puts on a great signing event.
He is the author of such amazing books as Hyperion, The Terror, Drood, and many others. He also stopped by the University Bookstore in Seattle WA on March 5, 2010 in support of his new book, Black Hills.
I enjoy attending events by Dan. He is extremely intelligent, well-spoken, and is a wealth of interesting tidbits and insight. He is always gracious and approachable. It is easy to see how much he enjoys writing, but even more so how much he enjoys researching the various projects he writes about.
It is undoubtedly the reason I learn so much from reading his books.
As always, Dan was in high form on Friday.
Here is the summary for his new novel, Black Hills:
When Paha Sapa, a young Sioux warrior, "counts coup" on General George Armstrong Custer as Custer lies dying on the battlefield at the Little Bighorn, the legendary general's ghost enters him - and his voice will speak to him for the rest of his event-filled life.

Oracle University is proud to present Enterprise Business Intelligence Masterclass with Mark Rittman, 28th-29th April 2010 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Oracle’s business intelligence tools are evolving, with new releases this year of Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (10.1.3.4), Oracle Hyperion Essbase (11.1), Oracle Data Integrator (10.1.3.4) and the Oracle Business Intelligence Applications (7.9.5). This two-day seminar, an update to the popular Business Intelligence Masterclass delivered by Mark Rittman, takes an in-depth look at some of the key features of Oracle’s business intelligence and enterprise performance management products, and provides an under-the-covers look at the technology behind the Oracle BI Applications together with the embedded Informatica ETL tool.
Aimed at business intelligence developers and project managers, this semin Enterprise Business Intelligence Masterclass with Mark Rittman, 2… What's up? Was Mickey Rourke's turn as the somewhat heroic, if flawed, grappler in The Wrestler just a blimp on the radar? Ever since he's been cast almost exclusively as a heelish villain. He's playing Tony Stark's nemesis, Whiplash, in the upcoming Iron Man 2. Now he's signed on to Tarsem's mythology-based actioner, War of the Gods. He'll be taking on the role of King Hyperion, one of the mythical Titans who were supplanted by the more well known Greek Gods and sent into hiding.
In Greek mythology, Hyperion was the former god of the Sun, before the Titans were soundly defeated. His role was then taken up by the god, Apollo.
War of the Gods centers around Theseus(the man who defeated the Minotaur), a warrior who must team up with the Greek gods in order to stop the Titans from rising up to reclaim their former glory, destroying the world in the process.

Shooting is set to begin in April.
Mickey Rourke Joins War of the Gods Since last years The Wrestler Mickey Rourke has appeared in shitloads of films and I for one am not fucking complaining. This man is a talent and despite going to hell and back he's managed to ressurect himself with what appears to be the help of a small dog. Anyhow soon to be going toe to toe with Iron Man as Whiplash he just last week signed on to play Conans dad in the new adaptation. Now I've read he's to play villian King Hyperion in Tarsem Singh's War Of the Gods. Singh directed the beautiful looking but weird as fuck The Fall so it will no doubt look good. The story is that a group of warriors face up against a load of right fucking nasty evil gods in order to save humanity. Think Legion meets 300 with a bit of Clash of the Titans. Just because it has Rourke I will probably watch it. He's Fucking Everywhere
Since his bright comeback with an Oscar nomination for Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler”, veteran action star Mickey Rourke has attached into a slew of high profile projects including “Iron Man 2”, “Conan”, Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendables” and “Passion Play” with Megan Fox and Bill Murray. Now, Rourke has also attached himself into the villain role in Tarsem Singh’s Greek epic “War of the Gods”, as King Hyperion. Previously, two names who have been joined the mythological epic film project are “Slumdog Millionaire” beauty Freida Pinto and Henry Cavill from TV series “The Tudors”.The film is being produced with advanced technique of cinematography experts. Using mixed reality equipment, the plan is to prepare studio scenes showing the manifest exploits of the mythic hero Theseus. According to legend, Theseus is the being who founded and rules the capital of Athens. Theseus is a popular ruler, and his fame became legend with the victorious bat Villain for “War of the Gods” is Mickey Rourke

Mickey Rourke dans la mythologie grecque ! AngelAirdate: October 3, 2000David BoreanazCharisma Carpenter, Alexis Denisof, J. August RichardsCreated by Joss Whedon & David GreenwaltWritten by Tim MinearDirected by David SemelIt's not every day that you get an episode specifically dedicated to introducing a set. A character? Sure. Not usually a set. But this is that episode. Apparently, after Angel found himself in that disused hotel lobby yesterday, it reminded him of a time in his life fifty years ago when he lived there. This episode tells that story, and ultimately ends up with Angel destroying a demon that's been there as long as the hotel has and taking over the hotel to use as his new base of operations. I'm talking about the Hyperion Hotel, and this will be the headquarters for Angel Investigations until the end of Season Four. It's a great set, and it's much, much larger than Angel's original office (which was destroyed because it was too small to shoot in effectively). Much of this story is told in flashback, b "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?"
