New Foreclosure Bill in Maryland

Gov. Realtors: HAMP not working

President Barack Obama’s program to help reduce the number of foreclosures is doing little for homeowners, according to a newly released poll of Realtors. Just 10 percent of the 5,800 Realtors polled in a national survey said they thought the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), implemented one year ago, had reduced the rate of foreclosures in their market. The plan makes $75 billion in funding available for up to 4 million homeowners, providing a modified interest rate and a three-month probationary period. Last month, the U.S. Treasury reported that only 116,000 American homeowners had modified their mortgages through the HAMP program. In Florida, which has consistently ranked among the five states with the highest number of foreclosures, there have been 101,971 active trial loan modifications through January. Of them, 14,598 have been permanently modified. The survey, conducted by Home & Land, a real estate media and marketing company, found that, in states such as Flo
